Exhibition Information
The usual definition of a superhero has been limited to the role of protecting people and has largely served as a good against evil. Since 'Superman', commonly referred to as the epitome of heroes, was first introduced to the public in 1938, heroes have begun to be mass-produced in mass media such as comic books, TV dramas, and movies, and in the late 20th century, anti-heroes who oppose the logic of heroes of the first world began to emerge, and the definition and horizon of heroes has steadily expanded. June 2020. We faced the Post-Pandemics era. Unfortunately, we watched that the world does not return to established rules and logic, and our ability to cope with the crisis, which is considered the most important capability in the era of the fourth industrial revolution, has been put to the test. Will the birth of a new hero be possible in this era? Who is the hero of this era? Does Hero really exist? The Korean Culture and Arts Council's personnel art space will showcase its theme exhibition <Superhero> from June 19(Friday) to August 22,2020. Artist Kim Han-sam, Woo Han-na, and Hwang Min-kyu, who participate in the exhibition, were born in the late 80s and early 90s and active in Korea, and through this exhibition, they were designed to examine the working trends of young artists who are active at the same time and to see if the crisis response method is valid in the language of visual arts. On the first floor of the exhibition hall of the Insa Art Space, Woo Han-na's new work <Pajama Party> will be presented. The characters she created so far had a rough yet elegant image. However, in this <Super Hero> last year's solo exhibition <Mulage Melancholyk>(Sarubia Dabang) was extended to create a stage where the main character disappeared and occupy the space. A broken-order space The first flore, which seems to be a mixture of reality and fantasy in crisis, is overwhelmed by the background of the character's disappearance. Only traces of someone playing are present everywhere, but the subject of the act is not clear. We imagine what happened in this space like a detective. The twisted pastel-toned paintings, irregularly sewn fabric boards, somewhere cut-off hangings curtains, traces of paint stained pink carpets, unknown unicorn characters, abstract painting on walls, and disorderly placed objects appear to dance and play at the same time as flowing music (<smelling of bullying>, music : Gotham). The artist, who used to call himself 'Disney Kids', uses the exhibition to portray slightly more insane women as heroes than before. This creates a stage where uncontrollable and unpredictable women can play to their heart's content, away from the male-biased gaze. [Source] Art Council Korea homepage
