Exhibition Information

Sometimes I think I'm drawing innocent things.

It depicts what is left in the place after something has disappeared, what is in front of you but will soon disappear, what is still disappearing somewhere, or something that is already gone. Empty and dried plants, egg shells piled up on the side of the kitchen, snowflakes that are full of the world and will go nowhere tomorrow, polar icebergs, last look of imaginary clouds and so on.

He has been talking about the experience of loss, but none of his paintings was directly lost. Because I couldn't draw, I didn't draw. The paintings were those I had been wandering around the lost room, and somehow caught my eye. innocent things. Things that were selected for a moment's intuition but stayed with them for a long time until they became paintings.

There was a time when I waited thinking over and over until the belief came that what I had chosen was meaningful. Now I just draw. I became disbelieved of my pre-drawn ideas. Didn't you feel that all the things that come to mind while painting are really about painting?

In a way, the meaning of a painting may be found only faintly, but clearly, in the very time it is drawn, rather than in the motive of creation or the material drawn. There are times when the picture I drew feels as unfamiliar as others. Painting remains, but the meaning is vague.

Losing is getting some facial expressions that have never been before, and losing others forever. I think the same is true of paintings. When I look at a new painting with the same face as the previous one, but with a slightly different expression, I think that some paintings will never be painted again.

I've seen a person's clear face several times. A clear, clear face, like clear water, that rose over the sinking things over a long period of time. Such a face was without exception the last face of the man I saw. Will I ever be able to draw such a face-like picture?

It's a mystery. Therefore, I draw.
