Exhibition Information
<Minor Infelicities> prospect queer artistic practice in all its complexity. Assembling a group of promising young queer, trans, and nonbinary curators and artists based in Bangkok, Hong Kong, Manila, Singapore and Seoul, the exhibition presents the contexts of a queer contemporary related to queer life, politics, and ecologies. The curators and artists in the exhibition capture variant aspects of queer life and resist imagining these dimensions as either simple or singular, and thus respond to the interfacing and entanglements that comprise moments of friction that inevitably define the everyday in queer social life. In allowing ideas to converge and social lives to mingle online, offline, or otherwise, the exhibition presents the interventional agencies of the artists, the curators, and all actors involved in the planning and coordinating of the exhibition. Imagining queer artistic practice that is plural, cultivating different concerns and sensibilities and approaches, but always focused on histories and futurities of queer possibility against cis-gendered male hegemony and forms of violence rooted in gender heteronormativity, the exhibition foregrounds the potential of contemporary queer artistic practice.
