Exhibition Information
In 2016, the Boan 1942 organized an exhibition called Made in Seoul. Made in Busan is the second exhibition of the "Made in Series," part of a project to weave cities and cities and create a place for space, planners and writers to communicate in it. The purpose of planning the exhibition "Made in Busan" in Seoul is not simply to view the artists working in Busan, but to understand the socio-cultural context of Busan and take a step outside of Seoul. Busan is a city where stories of various levels are intertwined. As a marine city and port city, it has been a city of fishermen and merchants and a city of travelers due to active exchanges with other countries during its long history. In addition, it was a city of Waegwan during the Joseon Dynasty and one of the fastest modernizations in Japanese colonial era, which has been greatly influenced by Japan in Korea. During the Korean War, it was a place of refuge and a city of strangers as it became a temporary capital, and there are still some old downtowns that retain the image of modern and contemporary history, making it a unique city where the past and the present coexist at the same time. The colorful and interesting contexts of the city of Busan are very valuable to be studied and discussed not only in Busan itself but also inseparable from our history, life history, and cultural history. Through this project, we have set the characteristics of the city of Busan under the keyword "mixed," and we want to look into Busan, think about it, and talk about it through the concept of hybridity. I believe that if there is a place where various people gather together to think about, share their thoughts, and explore how to present the results, rather than unilaterally approaching them from the perspective of others, it would be more meaningful than just regional exchanges.
