  • A year is the journey of the Earth's sun, a month is the moon's cycle, and a day is the Earth's rotation cycle, while a week is the only artificially created time system for the human life cycle, regardless of astronomy. Camille Henrot looks at the types of human behavior that are stereotyped and repeated in society on each day of the week, referring to cultural anthropology, theology, social media and psychoanalysis. The exhibition will feature the work of "Saturday" and "Tuesday" among the seven days of the week, along with a series of watercolor drawings by the artist.

<Saturday>(2017), a video work taken in New York, Washington D.C, Tahiti, and Tonga, pays attention to the Seventh-day Sabbath Jesus Christ Church, which keeps Saturday as a Sabbath and holds a flood baptism. In the video, the scene of the Jareumgyo worship, which values health and eating habits, and the recording of the broadcast program, which prays with viewers' stories, are combined with images of nerve tests, food advertisements, Botox procedures, big wave surfing, endoscopy and demonstrations. Camille Henrot observes and links the way humans have hope in moments of despair and impossibility at the medical, religious and political levels.

'Tuesday'(2017), which consists of images, sculptures and mats, refers to "Tyr", the etymology of "Tuesday" and refers to the god of war in Nordic mythology, and‘#transformationtuesday', a hashtag of today's digital age. The image of a racehorse running, breathing and trimming its fur and the video work of a jujitsu athlete training on a mat in slow motion transforms competition into passive contemplation, exaggrates body movements, and overturns the meaning of competition. Along with the video, the two jujitsu mats and sculptures occupying the actual exhibition hall embody the suspended and tangled body figure, distorting the dichotomy of surrender and domination.

《Saturday, Tuesday》presents a space of new possibilities that Camille Henrot, through the types and emotions of human behavior captured on two days, twists the relationship between the dual power structure and authority that he senses as a community and is not defined by dichotomy and non-reversibility.
