  • This exhibition is a large-scale permanent exhibition that focuses on the major trends of modern and contemporary Korean art. We want to approach the flow of Korean art from the social perspective of the times rather than the inner aspect of art. You can also look at the background and development of the work by presenting key materials that make the work appear. This 120-year-old exhibition of 15 sections of modern and contemporary Korean art is an exhibition of collaboration in collaboration with researchers from different periods.
In the early 20th century, art began with how to reproduce facts, and was transformed into a variety of styles of expression that revealed its subjectivity and individuality. In addition, as the center of gravity shifted gradually to what was true, works of existential tendencies emerged and various experiments in art expression were carried out. Later, abstract art with monochromatic tendency and the relative composition of the works of the people's line, which read the reality of the time, emerged. Gradually, the art of decentralized pluralism emerged from this structure. On the other hand, they sought to establish the identity of the Korean painting as a transformation of the traditional painters. Japanese occupation, emancipation, the Korean War, division, 4.19, the the Revitalizing Reforms system, 1988 olympic, to the time of globalization, our yoke their historical work in the zeitgeist. Fierce writer showed a sense that you want to deepen.
Along the 3 floor 5-6 exhibition hall, art will be developed from 1900-1970s, and art from late 1970s to 2000s will be connected again along the corridor with the 3-4 exhibition room on the second floor. As the audience moves along the line, they will recall how art has changed in Korea's social situation and the organic relationship between society and art. You will also be able to feel how the art media of different times have changed just like time travel.
The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art has held various exhibitions highlighting the history of Korean art and has collected and preserved excellent collections and archives focused on the history of art. Through this exhibition, we hope that it will be an opportunity to open up the eyes of the times on our art and to understand and approach modern and contemporary Korean art more easily.
