Exhibition Information

  • The Kim Jongyoung Art Award was first presented in 1990 by the bereaved family and students to commemorate the maintenance of Mr. Han, who devoted his life to Korean sculpture education and was dedicated to Korean art in the world. It has been a sculpture for young artists until the 13th in 2014, and has been held jointly with Maeil Newspaper since the 14th in 2016, eliminating age and genre restrictions and reborn as an art award. Considering the purpose of the Kim Jong young Art Award, in December 2018, the review committee selected sculptor Park Il-soon as the winner of the 15th Kim Jongyoung Art Award after a heated discussion.

Park Il-soon has been working on nature for a long time. He usually deals with trees, and his favorite color is green. The work has been extended to installations that are in harmony with the cube and the plane. His work is characterized by the utmost respect for the material's material properties and forms, and minimizing the author's contrivance. In a word, it's a work that seems to be like that on its own. All of his work is done by hand, so he can see that the sculpture is everything that the scholars used to practice calligraphy as a means of training. His work can be summarized as a journey that has been combined with sculpture by reinterpreting the tradition of painting without jumping on the bandwagon.

In short, Park Ilsoon's work was a journey to seek the beauty of moderation. So his life was also hidden. With the award of the Kim Jongyoung Art Award, I hope that the Korean art community will have a new perspective on his work. In addition, I hope that he will focus more on work and present the definition of beauty of moderation to the Korean art world.
