  • At the experimental art space "Warm Water Space" located in Seogyo dong, Seoul, the visual art exhibition "Tracing on Emptiness" will be held from December 16, 2020 to December 31, 2020. This exhibition is an individual exhibition of Lim Jae-hyung, who was selected as a visual artist of the Seoul Foundation's Art Creation Activity Support Project in 2020, and will showcase about seven series of paintings and prints. Admission hours are from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., and are free of charge.
The exhibition name "Tracing on Emptiness," which represents the absence and its traces, symbolizes Lim Jae-hyung's recent work that focuses on emotions and attitudes surrounding the loss. The author, who majored in Western painting and engraving at the university and graduate school, respectively, contains the author's worries about how to visualize the power to hold or restore what disappears in this exhibition. For example, woodblock prints using sloping plates and slanted paper reveal a willingness to look back at the time that has been physically tilted and stopped (<a clock>, <Place>). It is also going to submit 'redrawing' of the subject once drawn. Looking at the object that has already been drawn with a different distance and re-drawing it with a new material is more of an act of slowly reflecting on the time it has been in the past (Worn Brush, Daeseol).
In this exhibition, Lim Jae-hyung also tries to recreate his attitude of trying not to let go of the things surrounding the loss through his creative act. The artist persistently tracks the legitimacy of expression in order to scrutinize why the missing object should be expressed as a visual art work. Even if I can't make it clear right now, I draw it to give it the right language and expression to trace it. It continues to express itself again, even in order to follow the senses that come to mind at the moment of reproducing what is missing in its own way. Looking into his act of honoring his disappearance in a series of ways, Lim Jaehyung did not let go of the momentary loss he faced in his daily life, such as recording the house left alone or catching traces of light on the surface of the water. Through the exhibition "Tracing on Emptiness", we hope to examine the traces of the subjects who stayed at the author's moment and the traces of the author trying to follow them.
