Exhibition Information
The National Folk Museum of Korea (Director Yoon Sung-yong) will hold a special exhibition "Be with us" at the planning and exhibition room II until March 1, 2021 (Monday) to mark the Year of the New Year of the Ox. This special exhibition introduces the appearance of cattle in our ideology and the use of cows in everyday life, and it will change and illuminate the meaning of cattle and statues based on 80 materials and images such as 'Congratulations', 'MungE' and 'Gilma', which are agricultural implements, and 'Hwagaksilae'. Currently, the National Folk Museum of Korea is temporarily closed in accordance with quarantine policies to prevent the spread of Corona 19. When the museum is reopened, you can watch it, and during the closing, you can enjoy it online at the National Folk Museum of Korea's website. The timing of the reopening will be announced separately. Part 1 'Duld and Comfortable Cow' Part 1 'Duld and Comfortable Cow' introduces materials that show the symbol and meaning of our conceptual cattle stemming from the ecological characteristics of cows such as 'Second of the Twelfth', 'Duld and Comfort', 'Death' and 'Hometown'. The cow is the second animal of the zodiac, and it is referred to as Chukshi from 1 a.m. to 3 a.m. and Chukbang from Bukbuk-dong. The slow steps, big gestures, and quiet performance of hard work have become symbols of honesty, comfort, diligence, and self-sacrifice. Also, the paintings of herdsmen riding on cows give them a sense of freedom, and the literature reminds them of the nostalgia of their hometown. Land such as the shape of a cow lying comfortably in the feng shui area and the shape of its belly were considered a blessing spot. The symbols and meanings of these cattle are introduced as "twelfth birthday" and "twelfth birthday" and "Mokwudo" and "Myeongsan Island". Part 2 of "a generous giving cow" Part 2 of "a generous giving cow" introduces the appearance of cows, which were the foundation of farmers' families in traditional farming communities, and the changes that are widely used as the main ingredients for everyday goods today. In an agrarian society, cows were precious enough to be considered a family. It has been a necessary labor force, a means of transportation, and has served as an emergency safe for raising a large amount of money. Moreover, the meat was a food ingredient, and the horns and leather were the ingredients of crafts and daily necessities. In modern society, cows do not only play the role of agricultural society, but also join humans with beef, milk, ingredients such as medicine and soap, and leather shoes. So it shows the literal meaning of "the cow has nothing to throw away but yawning." These images of cows in our daily lives are introduced as farming tools "munge" and "gilma," "Suwoon Japbang" containing beef food recipes, and "Hwagak Failure" made of ox skin, drum, janggu, leather shoes, and ox horns. I hope you have a comfortable year like a white cow. With this exhibition, we can confirm that cows are not just staying in ideas, but are located close to our lives. I hope the new year 2021 will be a comfortable year for everyone like a cow after 2020 when there were many difficulties due to Corona 19.
