Exhibition Information
In the dictionary, everyday life means 'a life that repeats every day.' Therefore, everyday life was something ordinary to pass by, thinking it was natural. However, it is being talked about how precious ordinary life, which has not been much in the past, has been due to the recent changes in life brought by Corona-19. Many of the things that were taken for granted are not natural. Shinsegae Gallery Centum City will invite six artists who capture our ordinary but precious daily lives on screen to hold a "Small but Precious" exhibition. All the artists who participated in the exhibition produce works with motifs from ordinary things that we can easily pass by. Most writers begin work by observing the life they have experienced in detail. Therefore, the ordinary daily lives that we feel precious now are already recorded as special moments for some writers. This is the case for the writers who participated in the exhibition. Each artist produces works by capturing every little event in our lives. Like Lee Kwang-ki's "Ants or People" (2019), which was submitted to the exhibition, a very ordinary daily routine of parking at a mart to shop is also the subject of the work for the artist. However, just because writers deal with everyday life in their works, not all have the same orientation. If someone wants to show the subtle emotions that are found in everyday life (Park Jung-won, Jung Yoo-mi), someone else wants to recreate the vague world beyond while portraying their daily lives (Lee Jin). And while there are authors who want to show the importance of everyday life in itself (Jo In-tae and Lee Kwang-ki), some writers find contradictions and absurdities in their daily lives and try to change them with satire and sarcasm (Baek In-tae, Lee Kwang-ki). The reason why such different writers can gather together in this exhibition is that "daily life," which was so natural for us to be recognized as a subject, has now become something special. The ordinary routines shown in the exhibition, such as chatting with friends at a cafe, taking a walk with a lover, or dressing up in a crowded bath room, are all things we can't see easily now. I hope you will enjoy the various daily lives described in this exhibition and take time to recall precious and beautiful memories that you didn't know in the past.
