Exhibition Information

"You Can't Put Out This Fire" by resident artist Kim Bangjoo will be held as the 11th creation and production presentation project in the visual arts sector.

Rather than observing the phenomenon surrounding him and looking at it as an object of overcoming it, Kim is more interested in solidifying the social category itself, including the writer, by describing the situation itself in the social code. His work takes place when he recognizes himself as a writer and comes into contact with society. In response to the question, "How can an individual view and interpret the world and speak?", the writer uses his identity as a medium to observe the direction of the individual's perspective, accept errors, and deny himself. This implies that the conflict structure created by the writer and the conflict structure through conflict could become part of the work. The writer captures the conditions in which an individual's life, his perspective, can become an art, and the moments at which it can occur.

One day in December, Kim Banjoo and his co-artist and spouse Lee Min-sung watch the sunset at the western end of the South Korean Peninsula and move to the eastern end of the island to watch the sunrise. In other words, the speed of rotation of the earth, which rises again after sunset, can be visualized by moving within the geopolitical characteristics of the Republic of Korea. The moving process is in the artist's private car, and the action camera is installed inside the car to photograph the front and back. This video is shot by the camera in the back, then moved to the place where the sun rises, and the camera in the front shot until the time when the sun rises. The footage will take about 14 hours to travel and wait for sunrise, and the edited version will be shown at this exhibition in 6 hours to match the exhibition time.

In the meantime, the author and Kwon Hyo-min, who live in the Netherlands, create a playlist by imagining that the rotation movement centered on the axis of the earth is parallelized by the movement of positions in Korea. This playlist is output to the ears of the writer and the immigrant ship through earphones in the car while traveling. The writer and Lee Min-sun share playlist songs through humming, whistling, and singing together. Playlists are placed in a small handbook in the exhibition hall, and you can also listen to music from QR codes in the handbook.

#Excerpts from the text "Previous to Accompanying" of the immigrant ship in the handbook

What bothered me was the reason for this trip. Is "B" trying to prove the rotation of the earth by moving from west to east while the sun is gone? Everyone accepts that the earth is moving, and therefore the next day comes when the sun rises, even if you don't dare to prove it. We woke up, checked out what day it was today, and lived our lives setting up schedules day by day. This action that Bㅂㅁㅎ is trying to do together is like a road movie of comedians who venture to prove a strong fact. However, how can a strong fact be made? ㅁ thought that the comical trip planned by ㅂ was somehow causing rift in the suspicious facts.
