Exhibition Information

The Horim Museum (Director Oh Yoon-sun) of the Sungbo Cultural Foundation is the second exhibition of the 2020 special exhibition of folk paintings, and will hold <The Garden Scenic Area_Person, Sansu, and Painting> at the shrine branch from October 5.

It is the second annual exhibition of the 2020 People following <Scenery of the Book>, which opened in May. 2020 People is a place to showcase a large number of new collections that have been collected for seven years since the folk painting exhibition in 2013, providing an opportunity to understand folk paintings by subdividing them into subjects.

In <Scenery of >, the figures, landscapes, and hwazos are happy paintings of the public's dreams and wishes. All three paintings are familiar with a long history and occupy important positions in folk paintings. While maintaining a long tradition, the folk painting's unique free expression and unconventional transformation were enough to attract people's attention at the time. The character map features characters and stories in history and literature in a canvas with free expression and composition. Sansudo freely reconstructed the scenery of the mind based on the prevailing ideas and traditions of the actual landscape after the late Joseon Dynasty. The painting is a highly beloved decorative painting by the private sector as it contains colorful and varied auspicious meanings, expressing various flowers, trees, birds, and animals in bright colors. During the late Joseon Dynasty, painting shops were booming under the Gwangtong Bridge in Hanyang as the industry developed. The paintings sold at the painting shop were placed all over the house, giving people pleasure. Sansu Island and Hwado Island made the house look beautiful and allowed the room to walk freely through the landscape and the entire countryside and countryside. The paintings were held on various auspicious occasions of the family to pray for the wishes and happiness of the people.

The exhibition space consists of three main parts. In the first exhibition room, there is an exhibition of figures and landscapes. People and arithmetic are closely related. Originally, the landscape was painted with a variety of paintings, mainly character and historical records. The landscape, which was painted in the background, was painted as an independent painting, capturing the human spirit, energy, and hope. Therefore, in the first exhibition room, you can see works that depict people's lives and landscapes that they enjoyed.

In the second and third exhibition halls, the paintings will be displayed. In the second exhibition room, you can see the painting, which shows the connection with the royal paintings. Folk paintings were hung in palaces, Sadaebu mansions, and private houses, serving as special functions and decorations. In particular, the painting was loved by various classes because of its ups and downs, as well as its colorful colors. In the exhibition room on the second floor, you can view elegant works by subject of painting, painting, peony, and butterflies.

In the third exhibition hall, visitors can enjoy more free handwriting and sculpture than on the second floor. As the culture of the royal court and the nobility is moved to the private sector, we can see the process of various folktales being transformed in line with the rapidly increased demand. In addition, you can see the popularity of folk paintings that lead to modern and modern times through the works of coloring artist Park Saeng-gwang.

In the lobby on the first floor, it will showcase prologue videos implemented with projection mapping technology on large walls following <fi's Scenery_Book Street and Texture>. It stimulates curiosity about the exhibition and increases the immersion level through videos that reconstruct the motif of the exhibition's works with 2D and 3D motion graphics. Also, the hands-on study papers for elementary school students will be posted on the museum's website. You can print it out and use it to watch the exhibition. It is expected to broaden understanding of folk paintings and exhibitions and enhance educational effectiveness.
