Exhibition Information
Gallery LVS will host Tk Suh's individual exhibition "Boogie Nights" from 14 January to 2 February 2021. The exhibition "Boogie Nights" will display oil paintings and drawings based on Seo Tae-kyung's experiences of "Night." Seo Tae-kyung records conversations between writers and works through paintings. The artist fills the canvas with immediate and emotional brush strokes, and listens to the shapes and images that occur in various pictorial ways, such as drawing right out of the tube, scratching with a knife, and drawing upside down. Unexpected images derived from various pictorial techniques collide with each other in the picture to build a negative and emotional line that only the painting can have. Like the emotions we change and feel every moment, Seo Tae-kyung transforms and builds layers of still life, characters, and abstract images, and each painting tries to share through the audience's multifaceted approach and experience with complex emotions. The exhibition "Boogie Nights" will feature works that reflect the artist's impressions and experiences on the night of Seoul returning from studying in Chicago. The scenery in the painting is reminiscent of Seoul's night, which is mostly lit with neon signs against the backdrop of a bright night, and like pedestrians who do not ask for each other's safety, the characters in the painting look out of the picture with cold eyes without explaining the exact identity and situation. Through these characteristics in the painting, the artist tried to induce conversational dialogue from the audience by simultaneously feeling the curiosity and fear we have for others. After earning a bachelor's degree at the School of Art Institute of Chicago, Seo held various individual and team exhibitions at the Korean Cultural Center of Chicago, Gallery No One, Heaven Gallery, and so on.
