Exhibition Information

2021 Daegu Culture and Arts Center Collection Exhibition

Since its opening in 1991, Daegu Culture and Arts Center has continuously collected works by local artists to help create local artists and establish local art history, and currently has a total of 1,128 works.
Collected collections are an annual exhibition of collections and Daegu, which promotes citizens' cultural consciousness through the Gyeongbuk tour exhibition and enhances the image of an active cultural and artistic center that is familiar to visitors. It is contributing to cultural win-win cooperation and exchanges with North Gyeongsang Province.

The collection of art museum works is based on the society, region, and people to which the museum belongs, and creates a new story by inheriting and confirming its achievements. Art museum collections cannot be built in a short period of time, and artists, critics, art history, and related figures are built over a long period of time, so they should have conditions to maintain the continuity and consistency of the collection. The collection exhibition is a starting point and an endpoint for assessing the results of such a step to meet the necessary and sufficient requirements.

The 2021 Daegu Culture and Arts Center's collection exhibition will feature 45 works by 41 artists. It will also showcase works donated through the Senior Writers' Exhibition and the Youth Writers' Exhibition of the Year, focusing on works collected over the past five years and works that have been recovered and preserved.
The first exhibition hall will feature works by Kang Geun-chang, Kang Jung-hee, Kwon Jung-ho, Kim Dong-gil, Kim Bong-cheon, Kim Woo-sik, Kim Jeom-hee, Moon Jeong-ja, Park Kwang-ho, Song Kwang-ik, Lee Do-hyun, Lee Hyang-mi and Yong-yong. Differences in genres, techniques, and colors, such as Korean and Western paintings, and abstract works, are expressed in the artist's own way. The works tell their own messages to the audience through their individuality.
In the second exhibition room, works expressed through various media are presented. The paintings and sculptures of Moon Jong-ok, Shin Kyung-chul, Ahn Hyo-chan, Yoo Hyun, Lee Jae-ho, Lee Chun-woo, Jangmi, Jeong Jeom-sik, Jeong Jae-hoon, Jeong Ji-hyun, and Choi Hyun-sil will be exhibited. The expression of works based on the changes in nature, phenomena, and society based on contemporary and real life makes time for visitors to ask questions and find answers.
Exhibition Hall 3 displays paintings and crafts by Kang Young-ho, Kim Jae-soo, Kim Tae-han, Park Dal-geun, Kim Dae-il, Kim So-hee, Kim Seung-hyun, Kim Jong-hee, Kim Ji-hyuk, Park In-sung, Byun Bo-eun, Seo Sang-hee, Yeo Dong-han, Lee Min-ju, Lee Sung-jo, and Hong Hyun-ki. Artists with distinct personalities and works spanning various genres will guide visitors to a wide and colorful art world.

The collection and interpretation of the collection are linked to various functions of the art museum, including exhibition, research, and education. Therefore, the various works of art museums are not independent but interrelated to form the unique identity of art galleries as well as individual works. I hope this exhibition will be a place where visitors can imagine the identity and meaning contained in the work and focus on themselves facing the work.
