			2021, Welcow!

Gwangju Shinsegae Gallery will hold the New Year's exhibition "2021, Nice to meet you!" to mark the new year of the white cow in 2021. The second animal in the zodiac, the cow, is a representative animal of diligence, as you can see in the narrative. Although the first prize was lost to a mouse wearing tricks, the fact that he won second place out of twelve animals remains unchanged. It was a universal culture to make this powerful, sincere, and intelligent animal a symbol of community or an object of faith, and even now, the Hindu religion of one billion people regards cattle as sacred. 

In Korea, which has continued its history with the agricultural culture at the center, the meaning of cows is very big. To us, cows were more than just livestock, responsible for the livelihood of the family and the nation, and we can find traces of strong and friendly cattle throughout our culture, including proverbs and folk tales. Even now, as urbanization and industrialization progressed and deviated from a traditional agricultural society, cows have become the most familiar animals for Koreans.

Cows came to Gwangju New World Gallery to welcome the New Year. 13 artists, from senior artists to emerging artists, will present works produced under the theme of cattle to celebrate the new year. Cows expressed in various materials and techniques sometimes greet visitors with heavy and powerful appearances, sometimes light and cute appearances. The cow that approached us in 2021 is not an ordinary cow, but a sacred 'white cow'. <2021, Welcow> is sending a message of support to visitors, spending a difficult year for everyone in 2020, and welcoming 2021 full of auspicious energy. I wish you a happy year to overcome the difficulties of 2020 and reach your destination like a white cow running vigorously.
