  • The exhibition "Fathomless," which will be held in January 2021 at Onsugonggan under the plan of curator Park Jihyung, talks about the way of sensing contemporary darkness. Darkness is something that cannot be fully experienced or captured even though it knows it exists beside it, but it is also an object that can acquire different meanings depending on the subject of interpretation. This exhibition assumes that the atypical darkness can represent the numerous perspectives of miss, slip, and crack that occur in the contemporary era, and focuses on the narrative of the situation after dark rather than simply focusing on the noun definition of darkness. The exhibition can be divided into a gap of understanding (Goo, Cha Mi-hye) that begins with the inner reason of experiencing the darkness of symbolic meaning, and a view of parallax and distance between individuals, hitters, and the world.

Participating artist, Gu Na, Lee Min-ji, Lee So, and Cha Mi-hye, observe or perform darkness from their own perspectives and vibrate their senses outside the realm of general reality. Through painting, sculpture, and sound installation, Guna depicts the shape of a nap, valley, wrinkle, and voice reminiscent of darkness connected like a pair of brightness. Lee Min-ji presents video and photographic works that deal with the experience of eyes being rich between the Internet and past images in situations where body movement is limited and constantly passing through the time axis between the past, present and future. In the video, Lee So-ui revitalizes the past and private memories that have passed so far through symbolic intermediaries, and recalls the spectrum of the universe, such as life, death, birth, and extinction. Cha Mi-hye unravels the confusion in dialogue, the closeness, and distancing of fragmented relationships caused by psychological distance with her invisible voice and implications.

In addition, literary gestures (lost direction, someone's recitation, messages transmitted without a receiver, and sentences that weigh with the picture) in the works are large or small around the work and establish a channel for connecting the audience's synesthesia to the exhibition. The audience will face metaphorical dark fragments and experience subtle differences in reality that did not seem too close to brightness. It is hoped that subjective interpretations surrounding nonverbal and multi-faceted areas can elicit contemporary empathy in the public domain.
