Gwangtong Bridge was named so because it is located in Gwangtongbang, and it was the first bridge in the city that connects today's Gwanghwamun - Jongno - Sungnyemun.
The area around Jongno, the center of the city at that time, was always visited by many people as many shops and pubs were located around Sijeon.
It took shape due to cover in 1958 from damage during the Japanese colonial period. After that, when the Cheonggyecheon was restored, we were able to see it again in 2005 through excavation, actual measurement, design and restoration of Gwangtong Bridge.
Looking at the 600-year itinerary of Gwangtong Bridge, the first bridge of the capital city, which has maintained its place from the Joseon Dynasty to today, I hope that it will be a time to understand the changes of Cheonggyecheon and furthermore the place and history of Seoul.
